Galaxies and Quasars

We study the structure and evolution of galaxies, with the aim to explain their present diversity of forms, sizes and colours. The targets of our research span a huge range in linear sizes, from galaxy clusters, the largest gravitationally bound entities in the universe, to supermassive black holes in the centres of galaxies. Very important for galaxy evolution are collisions and merging of galaxies; computer simulations of such processes provide clues that can be compared with observations.
